EAEU Common Rules for VMPs to be Discussed in Moscow on September 20
The EEC’s Department for Sanitary, Phytosanitary and Veterinary Measures is preparing to hold an open event to answer the questions from the market players regarding the deeper integration of the common Eurasian market of veterinary medicinal products.
On January 21, 2022, the Council of the Eurasian Economic Commission (EEC) approved Decision No.1 regulating the circulation of veterinary medicinal products in the customs territory of the Eurasian Economic Union. The 800-page long rules describe the uniform approaches applicable to veterinary medicinal products that may circulate in Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Russia.
Despite the entry into force of the Rules on March 13, 2024, a transitional period is envisaged till the end of 2027. To discuss business matters and give necessary clarifications on the regulation, the Department for Sanitary, Phytosanitary and Veterinary Measures, part of the EEC, is set to hold a round table event open to all the parties concerned. Backed by the Association of Veterinary Pharmaceutical Manufacturers (AVPHARM) and the Union of Animal Industry Enterprises (SPZ), the event is scheduled for September 20, 2024, from 10 am to 12.30 pm (Moscow Time, UTC+3), at the Russian Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
Speaking at a preparatory meeting, Tatyana Kolchanova, Director General of SPZ, admitted that, although the Rules are in effect since March 13, 2024, their application still raises many questions from the market participants. Semyon Zhavoronkov, Executive Director of AVPHARM, echoed her by saying,
These days we are being bombarded by questions about the Rules. While some issues are of technical nature and can be tackled just by reading the document carefully, others require us to come together and compare notes. Our Association seeks to ensure enforceable and transparent regulation within the Union’s borders, which serves the interests of buyers and all the populations of the region. We welcome the initiative of the Department for Sanitary, Phytosanitary and Veterinary Measures and express our readiness to sponsor it in every possible way.
