Russia has not imported vaccines for cats and dogs since September 1, 2024

21/02/2024

Since the beginning of 2024, as of February 10, imported vaccines for cats and dogs have not been released to the Russian market, according to the Rosselkhoznadzor comment released by «Veterinary Medicine and Life» porrtal. The Association of Veterinary Pharmaceutical Manufacturers (AVPHARM) analyzed the official data and confirmed that imported vaccines for companion animals have not been released to the market even longer, since September 1, 2023.

The AVPHARM explained that the reason is the lack of Russia-issued EAEU GMP certificates for the majority of foreign production sites. According to the new law, if the production site has not managed to pass the Russian EAEU GMP audit, or failed it, it cannot continue deliveries to Russia after September 1, 2023.

The law requires that all production sites (all production stages) involved in manufacture of a particular veterinary medicinal product (VMP) be GMP certified by Russian specialists. Otherwise, such a VMP cannot be supplied to Russia. Currently, 40 foreign production sites have Russia-issued EAEU GMP certificates, but this is still not enough.

Most foreign manufacturers producing in demand VMPs are «not covered» with Russia-issued EAEU GMP certificates and cannot supply products to Russian consumers – veterinarians, as well as owners of pets and farm animals.

To remedy the situation, foreign manufacturers continue to submit applications and undergo Russian GMP audits to confirm compliance with the requirements of the EAEU GMP. AVPHARM participants have so far submitted 7 new applications for audits, which are due to take place in the first half of 2024. Their results will be known in the second half of the year.
